Clean and Simple Easter Chicks

Start off with, by stamping stamps from the little Easter chick stamp set onto a piece of Neenah Classic Crest solar white  80lb card stock using Versafine Onyx black ink. Rotate the card panel to stamp the images twice. To ensure the ink was completely dry before you start to colour, just quickly heat set the ink with your heat gun.

To colour the chicks in use Yellow 50, Bright yellow 52 and Orange 70 Zig clean colour real brush markers. Add a slightly darker orange in the nooks for added depth using Scarlet red 23. For the egg, use light grey 91 for some shadows down the left side.

 

 For the second card with white chicks, and used a combination of light grey and pale grey 97 to add the shadows. Adding the grey helps reinforce that the chick's feathers are white and not that we just haven't coloured them in. For the eggs on the second card, use blush 69 and pale pink 28  to colour the shell in. Once all the images were coloured, use the coordinating dies to die cut the images out.

 For the background, die cut a circle from some Inkyadinkadoo masking paper. Trim the sheet of masking paper down to the same size of the card panel and then die cut a circle about a third of the way down from the top.

Remove the backing paper from the masking paper, and adhere this down to the card panel. To create the sky and grass area, use a scrap of paper to mask off a smaller section of the bottom to ink blend the sky above. For the sky I used It's a boy and Something borrowed from Catherine Pooler Designs along with blending brushes to get a soft blend with the darker colour at the bottom facing upwards. To do the grass, just remove the paper and reposition to cover up the sky and then ink blend Garden Party, Grass Skirt and Eucalyptus.

When you're happy with the blend, remove the masking paper and reveal the little window scene and this is the best bit as you reveal the crisp edge of your ink blending. I was able to reuse this bit of masking paper for the second card panel, so you can get several goes with the paper before it will lose stick or if you tear it.

Each card panel was trimmed down to have an 8th of inch border and foam mounted onto card bases made of out of Lawn Fawn Fog cardstock and Gina K designs Sea Glass. To assemble the cards, use scrapbook adhesives foam pads along with Gina K connect glue. For the larger eggshell, I glued a chick behind it before foam mounting it on to the card.

To finish the cards off, the Happy Easter sentiment from the stamp set was stamped in the Onyx black ink. These little Easter Chicks from Avery Elle are adorable and a clean and simple card likes this really allows the little scene to pop. I'm not usually a critter stamper but I've really loved using this little stamp set!
